 4      The partner in Belgium is the University of Leuven and, in particular, the “Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on the EU, Foreign Policy and Global Governance” and two of its constituent members:

  • ‘Leuven International and European Studies’ (LINES – formerly called ‘Institute for International and European Policy’) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, which conducts research on EU foreign policy and organizes the ‘Master in European Policies and Politics’ (MEPP) and the ‘Master in de Vergelijkende en Internationale Politiek’ (Master in Comparative and International Politics) (followed by 200 students).
  • the interdisciplinary ‘Centre for European Studies’ (CES), which organizes the interdisciplinary ‘Master in European Studies: Transnational and Global Perspectives’ (followed by 180 students),

 

            European identity and European exchanges are a major dimension of research and education at LINES and the CES. The Master in European Studies also includes courses such as “Transnational and Global Perspectives on Europe: Ideas, Theories and Methodologies” and “Linguistic Aspects of Ethno-Cultural Diversity”.

       As a leading European research university and co-founder of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), KU Leuven offers a wide variety of international master’s programmes, all supported by high-quality, innovative, interdisciplinary research. KU Leuven hosts over 41,000 students for the academic year 2012-2013, including 6,724 international students (3,455 students from within the EU and 3,269 students from outside the EU). KU Leuven has Erasmus contracts with 434 European universities and 22 central bilateral agreements in 8 non-European countries, including in the US and China.
